Upper Deerfield Township EMS - also known as Upper Deerfield EMS, UDEMS, and Squad 34 - has served the community since 1954.

The organization began in 1954 with an all-volunteer membership. In 2010, Upper Deerfield EMS formed as a paid agency while continuing its volunteer tradition. Today, paid and volunteer personnel work together as one team to provide emergency medical care, community service, and mutual aid.

Our history

Upper Deerfield Township EMS was founded in 1954 as an all-volunteer emergency medical service. In 2010, Upper Deerfield EMS formed as a paid agency while maintaining volunteer participation. Today the agency operates as a combined paid-and-volunteer service, continuing a tradition of neighbors serving neighbors.

Paid + volunteer staffing

Two full-time employees serve alongside part-time personnel and members who also volunteer, creating a flexible combined staffing model.

Modern equipment

Our fleet includes four ambulances and one quick response vehicle equipped for modern prehospital care. Equipment includes power stretchers, power-load systems, LUCAS 3 mechanical CPR devices, Binder Lifts, MegaMovers, and other advanced patient-moving and emergency-care equipment.

Service area

Local response. Regional mutual aid.

Our primary 9-1-1 response area covers approximately 31.5 square miles in Upper Deerfield Township. We also provide mutual aid across approximately 25 additional square miles in Cumberland and Salem counties when requested. The agency responds to approximately 4,000 9-1-1 calls for service each year.
